Reuss Ranks No. 5 In Motor Trend’s 2012 Power Rankings

Every year Motor Trend releases its annual power rankings list of automotive movers and shakers across the entire industry. And usually there’s a General Motors exec or two that break the top ten. This year is no different, as GM North America President Mark Reuss landed at the number five spot, ascending from his number six ranking last year.

A few levels down is GM CEO Dan Akerson, who leaped up to the number nine spot this year from 27th last year. Motor Trend points out that Akerson needs to up the ante on overall quality for his company’s four core brands here in America, and we can hardly argue that. However, Akerson’s seven consecutive quarterly profits since he’s been in charge has shown that he’s more than just another suit.

Other GM notables are Global Design V.P. Ed Welburn (no. 13), Global Compact, Small, Mini and Electric Vehicle chief Jim Federico (no. 16), Vice Chairman Stephan Girsky (no. 21), EV vehicle line executive Doug Parks (no. 30), Vice President of Global Product Development Mary Barra (no. 41), marketing chief Joel Ewanick (no. 44), and the legendary Bob Lutz (no. 50).
