While we will be the first to tell you the 2012 Buick Regal GS isn’t overwhelmingly fast, we still have to give kudos to its 2.0L turbocharged Ecotec four cylinder engine. The little engine goes on record as the most power-dense engine GM has ever built, producing 270 horsepower and a wholesome 295 pound-feet of torque. Because of this, Ward’s Auto has placed it on its annual “10 Best Engines List”. Others include Ford’s 5.0L “Coyote” V8 found in the Mustang GT, and the 3.0L supercharged TFSI V6 found in the Audi A6 and A7.

Does this mean that GM has an “EcoBoost” engine? According to the site, the 2.0 does have DI, along with DOHC and a turbo. Same thing with the 1.4 Turbo on the Cruze, right? I guess GM isn’t being flamboyant with everything they do……..(cough cough Ford)
To my knowledge the 1.4T is not direct injected.
but the thing is that I think Ecoboost has 2 turbocharges(at least thats what it says on the V6 ecoboost)
I picked my GS up from the dealer this past Saturday. While I’m still in the break in phase, I will say its been a joy to drive. One thing to note…..the reviews have been right. It suffers from lag. Anyway, I guess this could be considered what Ford is doing with their ecoboost. A small displacement force fed engine to propel a larger, heavier vehicle.
You are correct. The 1.4T will not be DI until the next generation.
Now, as I said previously on one of my comments, this 2.0L Turbo was in the Cobalt turbo, HHR Turbo ( both SS versions), Solstice GXP, Saturn Sky and Opel GT.
From the factory this RPO LNF had 260 HP but you could buy a stage 2 kit at any Chevy dealer and pump it up to 300HP, with the same warranty !!!
Now, the new 2.0L for the Regal, Verano and supposedly the new Malibu as well as some other new vehicles, is a new generation from its predecessor.
Turbo lag what a lag I really want a gs
