The 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show is happening next week, but whoever was operating Cadillac’s website clearly had their dates confused, as the photo above was revealed to unsuspecting eyes. Of course, the photo was taken down within moments, but that didn’t stop Jalopnik for snipping a quick photo and sharing it with the world.
When the front-wheel-drive-based XTS launches in the middle of 2012, it will come with the all-new Cadillac CUE infotainment system, but engines are currently being kept on the DL. However, it’s not difficult to imagine a 3.6L LFX V6 in the base model. We’re also not ruling out the possibility of eAssist.
Update: Cadillac has officially announced that they will reveal the XTS at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. EST.

Looks great…
so is there gonna be a turbocharged engine too?
I have to say I’m disapointed. the look is decent but its not revolutionary, I mean E-class and 5-series look much better, especially the E-Class. One could say it doesn’t compete with them so you cant compare with them. Well, the new Lexus GS is better and I bet the new Lincoln MKS coming out next year will be better. I hate the clunky headlights and the front is sort of stubby and not as elengent though it is impressive. They did a good job of keeping the concept’s looks though. I guess some people would like it. I would just by an E-Class becuase I love it. Hopefully the ATS does not borrow to much from the XTS.
Oh Alex how much do you want to bet its going to start at 50-55 grand. Since you said its going to be 70 or something.
I think the XTS is a good “place marker” – something GM rushed to market to fill the void left by the DTS. And will it be nicer than the refreshed Lincoln MKS? Probably yes. At least its a nicely refreshed DTS that will make some retail sales but it might gain traction with the livery/black car market as the tired Lincoln Town Cars are replaced.
I don’t see it as a competitor to the Germans. Perhaps it might lure some Lexus customers. Perhaps some customers of the Chrysler 300 might cross shop it (but the Chrysler has the distinct advantage of rear drive with an AWD option). Much will depend on how Cadillac prices it.
I’m beginning to think that Cadillac would like us to believe that the Audi A6 could be its most similar competitor. The A6 FWD-based as well and it starts in the low $40,000’s. Despite this, the XTS is probably going to be a good 10-inches longer than the Audi…
Well, I’m not sure about other markets, but I’m pretty sure no one in LA is cross-shopping an A6 with any Cadillac. it’s just a different group of shoppers. The basic A6 is fwd; however, the engine placement in the Audi is north/south; quite different, at least in driving feel and drive shaft lengths, from the traverse mount configuration of the XTS. I just don’t see many Audi conquests by the XTS.
I think Cadillac has and will have a hard time pulling in anyone who drives German (for the sake of driving German). I agree with you on all points… I’m just trying to find the best angle for the car…
I’m curious to see the inside and see what’s under the hood. This should be GM’s McRae interior to date. This car is meant to be the flagship until caddy comes out with the Omega based 7-series fighter. I can see people cross shopping this with the Lexus ES and Lincoln MKS even though the Lacrosse is a better competitor for those two. Thing is, your average luxury car snob won’t even consider setting foot onto a Buick showroom floor. This could also maybe, just maybe steal some Audi A6 or A8 shoppers as it will compete with the A6 on price and the A8 on size. Can’t wait to see what thieves offers on the inside
Can’t wait to see what this car offers on the inside** stupid iphone
Lol, I thought you were wondering what it offers to thieves 😉
Are we forgetting that the A8, as huge as it is, is built on a front drive chassis? This means that the XTS could be very well pitched against that car, if Cadillac wanted to. But I suspect it won’t. The target market is (as was the case with the DTS before it) an older customer and the limousine and hearse markets. The XTS is only marking time until the rear drive replacement comes along. Until then I can bet that this car will appeal to a very unlikely set of customers. Like I said before, this car will perhaps surprise everybody by turning up in a few rap vidoes, on a few “pimp-my-ride-esque” shows, and maybe even in the daily fleet of an NBA player or two.
Richard,
Can’t agree with you, does this car have to compete with any specific German car or for that matter any car. I think this vehicle will meet the needs of a range of consumers. Unlike many here I think Caddy will always have a strong (and should) front wheel drive competitor. Many people like front wheel drive cars. What is going to pull people into dealers is a spectrum of products, front and rear drive.
