With all of the attention on small, fuel efficient cars, trucks have taken a behind-the-scenes approach. But as any auto-buff knows, it’s still trucks that dominate market sales, and it’s still trucks that happen to be the most profitable vehicles sold. Truth be told, we wouldn’t have much of an auto industry without trucks. In fact, we wouldn’t have much of anything without the invention of the pickup.
Think about construction, logistics and many other blue-collar industries of the world. They all depend on trucks — something that Chevrolet has been doing for nearly 100 years, when it launched the 1918 Series 490 half-ton “cowl” chassis truck.
