General Motors is looking to expand its footprint in motorsports with the unveiling of the 2012 Corvette Daytona Prototype that will enter the fray early during next year’s racing season starting with the Grand-Am Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway on January 28, and hopefully at the Belle Isle Grand Prix in June.
As of now, four race teams have signed to run the new Daytona Corvettes for 2012. There’s the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Racing, the No. 10 SunTrust Racing, the No. 99 GAUNSCO/Bob Stallings Racing, and Action Express No.5 and No. 9 cars. The Prototype will be testing at Daytona raceway tomorrow, November 16.
Perhaps the cars will act as test beds for all-new 2014 Corvette C7 technology… we can only hope.
