NHTSA Rules That GM Must Repair Faulty Gas Gauges On Late-Model SUVs

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has closed to books on their investigation that has been going underway since this past Spring regarding defective gas gauges installed in the now-gone GMC Envoy, Chevy Trailblazer, Buick Rainer and Saab 9-7 mid-sized SUVs. The investigation concerned nearly 900,000 models on the road, and the agency has ruled that General Motors must cover the repair bill on each one taken in to resolve the gas gauge issue.
Here’s what doesn’t make sense here: the repairs on these “Old GM” models are be presumably being repaired by the “New GM,” while there’s a class action going on between disgruntled Chevy Impala owners and the “Old GM” because “New GM” refused to pay for the repairs on the grounds the Impalas are an “Old GM” design.
Confusing enough? Probably more confusing than it needs to be.

The problem is, those are a very small number of GM trucks/SUVs with bad gas gauges over the years.
