Did The Cadillac ATS Lap The ‘Ring In Under 8:30?

If you haven’t seen the latest official video on the 2013 Cadillac ATS, help yourself to it below. When you’re finished, you’ll hear the engineers standing near the finish line of the Nürburgring exchange lap times recorded on their stopwatches for a bypassing Cadillac ATS. The numbers? “28.09” and “28.14.” Those numbers could mean anything, but if you add 8 minutes in front of those times, and it describes an impressive lap time, right on the heels of the last generation BMW 335i. Coincidence? We think not.

What kind of engine will be the top of the line engine for the ATS? It doesn’t sound like an I-4 to me. Sounds like a V-6. Probably the 3.6, maybe with some turbochargers? Either way it should be a hit. A flatplane V-8 would be cool too.
The flagship engine will definitely not be a four-banger, but instead will most likely be a variant of the LS series V8s, as per this story from earlier this year:

It may be /a/ lap time, but it’s not necessarily the best possible lap time of the ATS.
I’ll be interested to see a proper full lap with the production version of the car – they were clearly still in the tuning phase when this video was shot.
