If you want to be like the best, you’ve gotta prepare like the best. Or something like that. Regardless of how the old adage goes, the engineers behind the development of the first-ever Cadillac ATS seem to be hellbent on beating the Germans at their own game, on their own turf at the Nürburgring, again. It’s a tall order to 1-up cars like the BMW 3-Series or Mercedes-Benz C-Class, but with a “focus on low mass” — as one engineer describes in the video below — the Americans seem to be on track to doing so.
The “low mass” statement runs against initial reports that the ATS’ Alpha platform was designed a bit too heavy. So has the Alpha platform been fine this whole time? We can only know for sure when we see the spec sheet and drive the car for ourselves.
