All-New Chevrolet Malibu Begins Global Launch… In Korea

The global launch of the all-new Chevrolet Malibu is upon us. But for reasons unknown, the Korean market followed by the Chinese market will be the first recipients of the 2013 model, although by only just a few months. The new ‘Bu is still scheduled to launch in January of 2012 in the ‘States, while South Korea will welcome the all-new sedan November 1st as it ships out of the Bupyeong assembly plant.

The 2013 Malibu specified for U.S. production will be built in Fairfax, Kansas and Hamtramck, Michigan, a neighborhood of Detroit that’s known for fantastic Polish food.

  1. Like the Cruze, the new Bu is vital to Chevy’s comeback. And like the Cruze, making sure it’s flawless by testing it ELSEWHERE before it hits our shores allows for last minute corrections HERE. The Malibu must launch flawlessly; Korea and China launches give it real-world test time.

  2. If the Malibu doesnt have a V6, and it shares its platform with the Buick Regal, and the Regal Turbo has a 2.0L turbo, what might you get from this? A Malibu RS to compete with the Toyota Camry SE that should get the Regal T’s 2.0L turbo and a Malibu SS should get the Regal GS engine, whiel still having great fuel efficiency.

    1. I’m thinking the new 2.0 Engine rumoured to be producing anywhere from 270 to 280 hp will be replacing the V6 position in the near future. Let’s hope so, i need something with power; the 2.5 will not cut it for me. :o)

  3. There are no V6 engines bound for the next-gen Malibu. But we could indeed very well see a 2.0L turbo, dunno about things like Hi-Per Strut, though.

  4. The thing is that if they do bring the Turbo make sure it’s the 270 hp not 220.

    2. I’m thinking the 2.o they are say is going to debut in 2012 in the Cadillac ATS, or whatever it ends up being named. It’s suppose to be “all new” and not a rework of the original current LHU 2.0 in the Regal, or the LNF 2.0 that came out in the Solstice GXP/Sky Redline.
