Ad Break: “Drive Through” Starring The Chevrolet Volt
Sponsored Links
In this new 30-second spot, we find ourselves observing an owner of a Chevrolet Volt waiting at a drive through window of a fast food establishment, only to be hounded by a pair of employees curious about the car. This ad comes off as far less confusing than the one taking place at a gas station, but do you feel the ad is properly done? Sound off in the comments below!

Better, but not by much.
Most automotive commercials are about the vehicle not a driver and some idiots working at a fast food joint… tell me about the car; show me the futuristic interior… Give me some nice views of the cars exterior. Give me facts that compare it to the competition. These are bad commercials Give me the big picture of the car.
They really need to show more about the tech in a fun way. Hire Bill Nye!
I think they’re trying something different with this. Most people (including supposedly mechanically inclined journalists) can’t even envision how the car works much less the vast majority of people who are thinking about buying one. Taking the car (which they’ve heard about in one way or the other) out of the picture and putting the “idiots” on point will get some attraction.
-“Is that my burger?”
-“Oh…I just got bun…I…I…didn’t even bite any burger. Look…”
Idiocy sells…ask Jim Carrey.
THANK YOU Richard!! I cudnt understand what mumbles was saying besides he didnt bite any burger! Ive just had to endure this commerical twice in the past 5mins on CNBC and im lookin for the TV brick! I dont like either of the volt spots…but Id say if anything the gas station one was done better. The burger spot just annoys me beyond belief. And neither commercial will inspire me to buy a volt. If and when I decide to buy a hybrid it’ll be due to REAL world performance based on real world data gathered from owner surveys, magazine testing and motor week… not stupid commercials….but …I guess not everyone knows how to think critically so I guess for those… maybe stupid commercials are all they have to go buy in deciding … I guess for that group….the presidential race shud be decided by candidates doing stand up on Leno and Letterman rather than debating…LOL!!
I like the spots. Truly the mainstream doesn’t get how Volt works – many still believe it’s just a BEV like Leaf. GM is doing a good job educating the public with these spots. MUCH BETTER than the first “It’s More Car Then Electric” spots. The follow-up ad to this one has the Chevy SUV owners behind the Volt honking their horn and asking “hey, how far can you go between fillups?” The Volt owner keeps everyone hanging for a second, and then says he has to fill up once per month. This is the plain-speak people need. For that matter, I liked the convenience store gas station spots too. So many people are just like that guy – “HEY! I THOUGH THAT THING WAS ELECTRIC!”
My one gripe with these ads is that due to the EPA’s ratings, GM has to say “35 miles” vs. what many Volt owners are seeing, which is 41-59 AER ( all electric miles ). 40 or 50 sounds much more impressive and Volt-price-justifiable than ” I can go 35 miles without using gas “. Also – they have to cover all sorts of driving habits and conditions including elevation gain and temperature sensitivity of the battery pack. Still, I believe in time the word will get out how amazing and revolutionary the Voltec system really is.
Finally – GM, please change your Volt slogan to – ” VOLT, IT’S MORE FREEDOM THAN ELECTRIC!” This makes far more sense than, “it’s more car than electric”. FREEDOM from foreign oil purchased from those that hate our way of life. FREEDOM from toxic ICE fumes in our lungs. FREEDOM from noise pollution. FREEDOM to fuel when and where you wish. FREEDOM to bring our troops home from protecting access to foreign oil. FREEDOM to power your car from solar and wind. FREEDOM to shake your fist at Big Oil purchased politicians. FREEDOM to just say no to record oil company profits. FREEDOM to go as far as you want without electric range anxiety ………..And a whole lot more.
VOLT. IT’S MORE FREEDOM THAN ELECTRIC.
