Opel/Vauxhall Mini EV Concept Revealed Ahead Of Frankfurt Debut

Some of us probably had toys larger than this. But believe it or not, what you see in the photograph above is an automobile. An electric automobile. This was also the surprise vehicle that was hyped by Opel’s brass that was going to make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week. Reportedly called the RAK e by several European publications, this teensy EV is said to be good for a 60-mile range — which is great if it stays in cities — and can achieve a top speed of 75 mph, just in case.

This unquestionably futuristic looking machine bears a slight resemblance to the real-life Ampera plug-in up front, connecting to a a sweeping bubble-canopy-like roof while sporting a motorcycle-inspired setup in the rear. And so far, that’s all we know.

Stay tuned for more as the days get closer to the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

  1. Hmm ok, anyone remember GM’s lean machine concept of the late 80s this bears a direct resemblance.

It bears almost zero resemblance to GM’s 3-wheeled concepts of the 80s, nor a Carver or an ECO, even though all those machines lean.

This concept does bear a certain frontal resemblance to Nissan’s Land Glider but the front end is re-imagined again, with even better results. The naked rear, with the trailing suspension arms is exceptionally cool.

Ingress/egress needs to be clarified. This one might have some kind of popup roof/door mechanism so you might have to be contortionist to get in the thing.
