GM Shelves Future Cadillac Alpha Convertible Project

News has arrived stating that the once-planned Cadillac convertible based on the Alpha platform (which we assume to be an ATS convertible) is no more. As usual, the cancellation of the project was budget-related. That’s a shame considering that BMW will remain unchallenged in the segment with its 3 Series convertible.
Thinking outside of the box for a moment, if this Alpha-based convertible was something more along the lines of a roadster, such as the likes of the BMW Z4, Mercedes-Benz SLK or even Audi TT, then that really dampens our spirits. But will we ever see something like the stunning Ciel Concept?
In any case, expect the Cadillac ATS sedan to make its debut next year.

So while everyone else (Lexus IS, BMW 3, Mercedes C, and Audi A5) will have a hard-top convertible variant, Caddy won’t have one? That’s not very good news for a new platform…
The elderly are very cautious with their hair.
What hair?
Nooooooooooo!
The ATS will probably get a convertible later in its cycle just like the cts got its other variants.
I didn’t know that the Merc C has a convertable.
Hopefully this will be a temporary thing. I mean, Camaro didn’t launch with a convertible right? Perhaps the top brass need proof that the ATS will indeed be a viable competitor to 3-Series and C-Class and whatever Audi fields (A4?). Who knows, if the ATS takes off the way say Cruze has, they might consider bringing it back to life… hopefully.lol

Fixed it for you.
Cadillac please do not make the Ciel. You are reverting back to your old man car ways. That car looks like something out of the 1970’s and 1980’s when Cadillac became the laughing stock of luxury vehicles! Cadillac needs to stick with the ATS and CTS.
