Sources: Chevrolet Cruze Hatch Coming To GM’s Lordstown, Ohio Plant

Add this to the mounting pile of evidence that the five door variant of the Chevy Cruze will be making its way to North American shores in the near future: several highly-informed sources who have a proven track record with GM Authority say that the highly-desired (and beautiful) Cruze hatch will, in fact, commence production at GM’s Lordstown plant in Ohio, joining the very popular Cruze sedan.

GM Authority is still in the process of confirming a date for job one, but sources say that it will be “soon”. The news comes on the heels of Chevy confirming a diesel-powered Cruze for North American consumption as well as multiple reports claiming that the Cruze range will see a global refresh for the 2014 model year.

The GM Authority Take

As we’ve said countless times before, being available in Europe isn’t enough — the Cruze hatch must come to the New World, especially given competitors such as the Ford Focus, Kia Forté, and Mitsubishi Lancer — all of which are available in sedan and hatchback body styles… not to mention the booted Cruze’s beautiful lines. For the time being, however, this seems to be as official is we’re going to get; although an official confirmation would sure be nice!

  1. I’m not a huge fan of hatchbacks (hate when those damn struts go bad and the rear door won’t stay up) but the Cruze looks great. Couple it with the diesel engine and I’d think strongly about it.

  3. They can’t build enough Cruzes now, how are they going to deal with an even greater demand of such a great product? I’m all for more models, but GM must also consider additional capacity. My local dealer can’t keep them in stock, and this is in import loving zone (Oregon / Washington)! They average less than one week on the lot with Eco models lasting less than 3 days.
