OnStar Adds Navigation Component To RemoteLink App

Wouldn’t it be useful if you could send an address you found on your smartphone to your car? Thanks to a new feature in OnStar’s RemoteLink app, you now can.

OnStar has just announced the addition of a navigation component to its vaunted RemoteLink app that will empower subscribers to search for a destination on their smartphones and send it directly to their vehicles. Once sent, the route can be accessed via OnStar Turn-by-Turn or an in-dash navigation system, both of which provide audible directions.

The update, which will be available in the Android Marketplace and iPhone App Store on August 30, also allows users to send an address to their vehicle by manually typing in a destination, selecting an address from their contact list (address book), or speaking the destination using voice search.

OnStar will host a webchat today, August 29, at 3 p.m. EDT, where Remote Link Navigation program manager Brandon Linton will discuss the enhancements to the app. The chat will be available at http://media.gm.com/coveritlive

GM Authority first reported on the possibility of a navigation component making its way into the RemoteLink app (then MyLink) back in May.
