If you’re a true automotive enthusiast, then you’ve heard of Detroit’s legendary Woodward Avenue — and the annual Woodward Dream Cruise. You’ve also probably heard of the shenanigans that happen up and down that lovely road from traffic light to traffic light (please note that the Birmingham Police are not enthusiast-friendly, especially after 10:00 at night).
To make sure that its vehicles are up for such hoonage, General Motors engineers have created something called the “Woodward Test,” which essentially replicates the strains that a manual transmission would go through during any given summer evening on Woodward Avenue. Have a look at the video where Brad Bur, GM’s assistant chief engineer for manual transmissions explains and demonstrates the test.

Man, I do this kind of test every day… unfortunately, it’s on my not-so-powerful Cruze.
Me too, but unfortunately I found out BMW doesn’t put decent clutches on their MINI Coopers. Oh well, Regal GS, here I come!!!!
So they test launching at WOT? I hope that would be something they test in a Camaro. /sarcasm
Hey KM, at least they are trying to see what they can do to strengthen clutches and drive trains for the abuse some people put them through. I bet none of the European car companies do this.
Could someone send me an application for this job. I have 30 years experience shifting just like that. What may help,is to drift a little backwards, before the full RPM, WOT clutch dump. I think every road i drive on is Woodward ave. Gota love those Chevys
