GM Plans To Boost Chevy Volt Output To 5,000 Units By January 2012

While GM moved only 125 Chevrolet Volts in the month of July, demand for the plug-in vehicle remains white hot — at least according to The General. Waiting lists are long, and it didn’t help that the Volt’s Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant was shut down for several weeks before recently firing back to life.
Thankfully for those on the waiting list, production will be amped up thanks to the modifications done to the plant in the process. And by January 2012, the plant plans on birthing 5,000 Volts in that month alone. If true, the plant will have no problem meeting GM’s goal of building 45,000 Volts through 2012.
