General Motors leapfrogged Toyota as the world’s number one automaker last month, selling 4.536 million units globally compared to Toyota’s 4.13 million units, which has been struggling from supply issues linked to the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan earlier in the year. Tied for second was Volkswagen, which also sold 4.13 million units.
Though GM has managed to capitalize on Toyota’s current situation, it will be a more interesting battle when both powerhouse automakers are back to full strength.
