Those of you who have had the pleasure of ever driving a vehicle equipped with a manual transmission can appreciate this: the 2012 Chevrolet Aveo Barina Sonic equipped with a stick and clutch pedal will come standard with hill-hold technology. This feature essentially acts as a third foot and prevents the car from rolling back or forward down a hill while getting the vehicle in motion from a standstill.

Nice!
I hope this mean that all new vehicle will come with this feature. It really helps create a refined feeling. My bimmer has it, it like night and day when taking off from this steep hill on my way to work. When I drive my wife’s Denali there is a very noticeable difference in the feel when the vehicle rolls backwards. This is huge in the refinement category.
Welcome to the 21st century.
I am a verry clumbsy person, and had no trouble starting on a hill, in my old Canyon, 2.9 I4, 5sp; I only poped the hood release insted of the parking break release once in 3 years. The Saturn SL2 and IROC Camaro were easier, they had handbreaks.
I had this technology in my 1984 Subaru wagon that I drove in college. 🙂 I also had a Subaru XT with electric power steering. What’s old is new again.
Impressive technology in a (currently) entry level product
Lets face it this should be standard in this day and age, n ot sure what the news is… Do the seats warm my toush, now that’s news… Ha…
This is a pretty exclusive technology/feature as far as I know. I’ve made it a goal to drive every model with a stick from all manufacturers and so far, haven’t seen it on any vehicles, let alone a sub compact.
The Fiat 500 has it.
I was trying to think if my 90 Subaru Legacy had anything like this I don’t think so, remember rolling backwards when first learning the stick and crapin my pants in the process as well as the guy behind me.
