Cadillac Escalade Still Number One Favorite For Thieves

Sometimes, a year doesn’t change anything. If you recall, the shiny Cadillac Escalade held the number one spot for the most stolen vehicle in the U.S. in 2010. The same holds true for 2011, with the SUV being six times more likely to be stolen than the average vehicle , according to a study done by the Highway Loss Data Institute. And if you own an EXT model, there’s a 16 out of 1,000 chance that it will be nicked. Perhaps it has been already? Maybe the car thieves are outside right now, looking at it. Though the 2012 Escalade features a few more theft deterrent systems in place that will hopefully do their job this time around.

Also making the top 10 were the Chevrolet Silverado (No.3), the GMC Sierra (No.5), the Chevrolet Avalanche (No.8) and GMC Yukon (No.9). On the flip side, if you happen to own a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, or even a 2009-2010 Aveo, car thieves hardly even notice them.

  1. Those statistics are artificially arrived at. As is the case with numbers, you can bend them and twist them to create a story any way the writer wants. Honda Accord has long been and continues to be the most stolen vehicle in America.
