The Canadian-spec Chevrolet Orlando MPV will launch in October 2011 and will start at $19,995 for the LS model. For that amount of Canadian coin, customers will get a compact vehicle that crams in seats up to seven occupants powered by a 174-horsepower 2.4-liter ECOTEC engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Impressively, the powertrain is rated at 10.1L/100 km (23 MPG) in the city and 6.7L/100 km (35 MPG) on the highway.
On top of that, there’s up to 1,594 litres (56 cubic feet) of total cargo space at the owner’s disposal. The Delta II-based Orlando also receives a pair McPherson struts for the front suspension and a compound crank axle to support the rear wheels.
Opt for the $22,295 LT trim, and a six-speed automatic transmission becomes an option. The auto becomes standard on the $29,735 LTZ model.

The sideview mirrors look unproportionally huge.
There’s something that isn’t grabbing me about the production version. I don’t like the headlamps (too large) or the grille (too rounded). I’m seeing way too many curves where there should be corners. In general, GM still needs to learn from Hyundai and to a lesser extent, Chrysler, how to put concept cars on the road with minimal changes.
Hey, at least the Orlando looks better than its primary competitors — like the Ford C-MAX and Mazda5. Right?
As for bringing concepts to life in a more direct and unchanged fashion, how about the Camaro? That was nearly unchanged from concept to production — and is one of those vehicles that’s very difficult to make in its current form.
On the other hand, Hyundai’s got design down (more or less), but their vehicles still suck when it comes to driving dynamics and characteristics (Genesis, Genesis Coupe, and Equus notwithstanding).
I wish we’d get the Orlando. I just put my beloved Malibu Max in the shop (electrical problems) for repairs. Even though we own Fords I have a soft spot for the Orlando. I’d also like to see the CruzeWagon made available in the states. The only thing I’d change if the Orlando was available was the third row seating, make it an option. I’d rather have the hidden storage/lower loading floor space. Hopefully someone from GM sees these post from here.
