General Motors is recalling a total of 7,507 vehicles over two separate recalls, one for 6,768 2011 model year Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks and the other for 739 2011 model year GMT900 models (this includes the Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado HD/LD, GMC Sierra HD/LD, Yukon and Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV).
The issue with the Colorado and Canyon pickup trucks involves a defective transmission shift lever that may cause the vehicle to roll away, according the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. As for the full-sized models, the NHTSA says that the vehicles are afflicted by loose steering bolts that could cause a loss of steering.
The recall is expected to begin on July 13. Owners of the affected vehicles can contact Chevrolet at (800) 630-2438, Cadillac at (800) 458-8006, or GMC at (866) 996-9463.
“NHTSA says that the vehicles are afflicted by loose steering bolts that could cause a loss of steering”. HELLO…!!!!! Same thing, different vehicle, different plant… around and around we go. This issue (loose bolts) is EXACTLY what I addressed while @ GM from 2000 thru Aug 2006. Alex, you outta take a look and/or interest just for public interest sake. Why do assembly manufactures invest in electronic error-proofing and never control the data input into it’s multi-million dollar investment? Why does GM destroy the data collected? Why are electronic build tickets not sold w/each vehicle? Why doesn’t NHTSA ever get to the root cause (NHTSA & GM w/others all hold hands)? Why are vehicle assembly manufactures allowed to install critical fasteners in vehicles in any manner they wish? How can 1 GM torque auditor “police” all their North American assembly plants for mandated assembly procedures? Why doesn’t the UAW step up and DEMAND assembly footprints (utilizing electronic error proofing tooling) be controlled to A single footprint? The general public only hears about this issue (loose bolts) through NHTSA but you wouldn’t believe how big this issue is behind “closed doors”… and why? 99.9% of all folks DO NOT realize the correlation between recalls or an assemblers “yard campaign-quality spills” dealing with missed fastener operations and an assemblers “built in” footprint options. This includes engineers, upper management, lawyers and UAW personal let alone the “average joe”. It’s probally cheaper to deal w/recall costs (obviously) but the press is bad. They (GM) certainly bought off the Chevy Cruze lady with the steering wheel issue CHEAP. If some smart lawyer knew what I know and could explain the reasoning behind it… it wouldn’t have been so cheap then. NHTSA, YOU & others will continue to report “loose fasteners/bolts” but like all others NEVER address or deal with the possible root causes. Can’t wait to hear the next like report. Later….
I got lucky…my Sonic has only needed a zip tie to hold the washer bottle hose on.
