Chevy Volt Production Restarts After Plant Retooling Hiatus

Through the month of June, GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant was idle. Nothing was being built, but that’s not to say there wasn’t anything happening within the walls of the 26-year-old facility. Through the month of June, the plant was undergoing a huge retooling project that will allow the plant to produce a larger number of Chevrolet Volts and Opel Amperas going forward, as well as the upcoming 2013 Chevrolet Malibu early next year, and the all-new 2014 Impala the year after.

With production back online, perhaps we will see a rebound in the low-volume sales the Volt witnessed through the month of June — a month where it wasn’t even being made. The plant is now capable of producing three times as many Volts as before.
