The United Auto Workers wants to change something that hasn’t happened since the 1980’s by having a UAW representative on the board of every Detroit automaker. UAW President Bob King is working on a plan to get UAW representation on the Boards of Chrysler, Ford, and GM.
UAW President Bob King has been looking towards Germany for inspiration and its law which has a union representative sit on the board of supervisors for auto manufacturers. Currently, the UAW has indirect board representation thanks to the Voluntary Employees’ Beneficiary Association.
When will we see King look to make things official? Most likely around September, since that will be the time the contracts for the UAW are up.
