Just as we were giving up hope that America would never see a Buick Regal wagon, a spy photo of one completely exposed emerges on them internets. And it’s not just a basic Regal, but it is in fact the turbocharged model. It won’t be as bonkers as the likes of the Cadillac CTS-V Sportwagon, but to see the promise of some athleticism coupled with loads of cargo space really gets our enthusiast blood flowing.
We’re just guessing here, but we’re gonna wager that the “X” signifies that the car is equipped with All-Wheel-Drive. If you want more snap shots, you’re going to have to visit Autoblog.

Clearly a Euro spec – look at front bumper
I’ve seen pics of Regal wagons online for a year now. I noticed the “X” designation under the right rear taillight. I wonder if that designates an all wheel drive powertrain? Could GM have it in them to surprise the public with an all wheel drive Regal wagon? Better yet, how about a turbocharged Regal GS wagon with all wheel drive? The thought of one gives me the automotive equivalent to an orgasm.
I hope AWD is eventually made available in the Regal. It should be optional on every vehicle a brand sells — not just reserved for CUVs and high-end Caddys.
A 270 horsepower, 295 lb.-ft. of torque Regal Wagon with AWD? Now we’re talkin 🙂
The 2012 Buick Regal is built on the Epsilon II. The architecture was developed by Opel in Rüsselsheim, Germany. It is adaptable for front and all-wheel drive applications. Well that’s what it says on Wikipedia anyway 🙂
Truth.
These pics are well over a year old, simply an Insignia wagon with Buick badges and trim. It would seem highly unlikely at his point that these would be offered in NA? Maybe if Acura was selling out of TSX wagons GM might make a move, but I don’t believe Acura is “selling out” of anything these days.
While pictures of the Regal/Insignia Wagon have been floating around for quite some time, these are brand new — taken a few days ago.
I love wagons myself and I can see a midsize soft-riding Buick wagon for the Tri-Shield. Unfortunately, the Regal isn’t very “soft riding”.
I’m guessing that the Regal Wagon will be for the 2013 model year. There seems to be plenty running around that are production ready. If they produce a GS wagon with all wheel drive, I’d be itching to buy one.
If you are fortunate enough to get your hands on a Euro Spec version of this care you wont go wrong. Get while the getting is good, I for one owned an Opel Calibra 2.0 16V AWD turbo during the mid 90’s this was a fun car. If the Insignia comes to the state with the 2.8L Turbo, it will definitely make for one heck of a sleeper. Wake up GM, think of the world as a market and quit dividing your products into what you feel belongs in each division of the world market. For far too long you have neglected the American market and now you are forced to borrow from your own divisions in Germany and Australia. If I want AWD, give me AWD, If I want a turbo on it Dammit give me a turbo. It’s not difficult to please your customer. Give us what we want or we’ll continue buying Honda’s and Toyota’s. WAKE UP!!!!!
