RPO Central: GM Releases 2012 Buick LaCrosse Info, Trim Levels Be Gone Edition

The General has published the RPO codes for the 2012 Buick LaCrosse — and the changes are pretty much as we expected… and then some.
For starters, the CX, CXL, and CXS trim levels are (finally) gone, as are their accompanying badges. The Midnight Blue Metallic and Red Jewel Tintcoat exterior colors are also out, as is the single-zone automatic climate control, monochrome driver information display, 17-inch steelies with wheel covers, dual exhaust with turned-down tips, and the 2.4 liter ECOTEC LAF and 3.6 liter LLT engines, among other deletions.
Most notable new features include a leather package that includes 8-way front passenger power chair and heated front seats, IntelliLink infotainment, eAssist powertrain, and the LFX 3.6 liter V6 (horsepower and torque are still to be determined). Moreover, the Comfort and Convenience package #1 now includes new content such as MP3 playback capability, inside rearview auto-dimming mirror, driver 4-way power lumbar seat adjustment, remote vehicle starter system, and Universal Home Remote.
Overall, the most notable change is the removal of the CX, CXL, and CXS trim levels — as was promised before by several GM executives. The LaCrosse will now offer several options rather than independent trim levels, putting the Tri-Shield’s (currently) flagship sedan in line with true luxury automobiles from the competition (read: Lexus).
It will be interesting too see how Buick will market the 2012 LaCrosse, given its increased feature set and content levels. What’s interesting, however, is the fact that the 2012 Regal didn’t get the trim level-be-gone treatment. What’s up with that? Here are the RPOs straight from GM:
