With the latest hubbub about a possible Chevrolet Cruze Coupe in the future, we thought it would be a good time to ask around and find out if the rumor of a two-door Cruze happens to hold any water. As it turns out, it does.
Multiple sources have all confirmed the development of a Cruze Coupe, but also went on to confirm the future arrival of diesel and hatchback variants of the hot-selling Chevy. As it stands, expect the diesel to come first out of the three, with the others arriving by calendar year 2013. Unfortunately, a high-output version still remains out of the lineup.

Holy cow that’s Great News!
Sure is, especially when you consider the fact that Hyundai will soon have a coupe of its hot-selling Elantra. A hatch/wagon Elantra isn’t 100% yet — but I bet it will come!
Hatchback is a great idea, most of the new Foci I see are the 5-door bodystyle. Good choice for GM. I am curious to sell how the diesel will sell. I believe it will be a good competitor to the Jetta TDI.
I’m curious to see what a coupe looks like. I’m hoping it has some swoopier lines than the more formal sedan.
I believe the Focus Sedan is outselling the hatch at a 2:1 ratio nation-wide… I’m kind of impartial to the Focus — it’s a great car to drive with great tech, but just doesn’t do it for me in the styling department. Too busy in the wrong ways.
But I’m right there with you when it comes to the Cruze Coupe in wondering how something like it would look like. I’d keep the front end and the tail lamps but give it some broader hips ala Camaro.
Do you think GM will keep Delta and Gamma platforms ? Or replace the both of them with one to cut down cost. The Epsilon platform replaced N platform and it will soon replace the W platform, just a thought. 🙂
I think Gamma and Delta are here to stay, but Delta needs some AWD capability… like yesterday.
Global automakers, in my opinion, will always need a subcompact platform that’s light and noticeable smaller (Gamma) than the C-segment/Compact (Delta) architecture. What’s great is that the new Gamma (Gamma II) is very flexible — and can underpin anything from a 3-door Corsa and new Aveo/Sonic to the very flexible and practical Meriva MPV.
A 3 door hatch would be awesome! Turbo 4? And it does resemble that Opel GTC hatch which is going to be made into a Buick. But i’d rather choose a Bowtie first! Car looks good though!
Oh…the diesel! Yes indeed…the time hath come…Bring it on!
