According to a GM Authority source who has previously been correct about GM’s telematics-related product and service announcements, OnStar is in the final stages of putting together an advisory committee that will help with future OnStar offerings.
The committee, mostly comprised of existing OnStar users, will be responsible for providing feedback and completing surveys while getting early previews of products and services being developed by OnStar and influencing their final outcome. Members will not be steadily compensated, but will be eligible for cash prize drawings for each survey they complete.
OnStar has partnered with survey-based marketing research firm Ipsos-Reid for the effort and committee participation is on an invite-only basis.
Could this be a market study effort for the rumored Family Link service, the navigation component for OnStar’s mobile apps, or maybe even that killer texting solution pre-announced by Nick Pudar? Or maybe this is for something entirely new that we haven’t yet seen or thought of… What would you like to see from OnStar in the future? Sound off in the comments.

I would actually like to see Onstar push weather notifications to your radio/DIC display or Nav Screen for the current area that you are in or the closest major city near you. Would be handy on long road trips or camping trips. I think that type of feature is possible with the new intellilink system. Would like to see OnStar integrated completely into the Intellilink system, show us text messages, facebook status updates, tweets. Shouldn’t be too far off.
That’s a neat idea. Some GM infotainment systems today already give you weather updates… not sure how much more useful it would be if they were “pushed” to the vehicle. They can simply be available upon request (pulled).
As far as SMS, FB updates, tweets, etc. go — that’s less of an OnStar area (telematics) and more of a Chevy MyLink/Buick-GMC IntelliLink feature set (infotainment). I think OnStar will stick with the safety aspect and let the individual brands’ infotainment system deal with these “additional” non-safety features.
