Exclusive: 2012 Cadillac SRX To Commence Production July 18

We just got word that the revised-for-2012 Cadillac SRX will commence production on July 18, 2011.

As you may recall, Cadillac’s only crossover — manufactured at the Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico — will receive one much-needed improvement for the 2012 model year with the replacement of the feeble 3.0 liter LF1 V6 engine with the much more modern 3.6L LFX that’s good for 300 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque.

So what does this spell out for those holding out for the 2012 SRX? It means that dealers are either already taking or are almost ready to take pre-orders for the revised vehicle, with deliveries (usually) taking place two or three months after the original order date.

Are you planning on buying a 2012 SRX? Talk to us in the comments!

A grandiose hat tip to Ken.

  1. I was in the process of buying the 2011 SRX but the reviews regarding the engine performane was not very positive. About that time GM announced the 2012 model with the new 3.6 liter engine so I decided to wait and now will buy the 2012 model. Your updates seem to indicate that the 2012 will be available in late summer. When should I initiate a pre order conversation with a dealer.?

    1. Tom — some of our readers have already begun communicating with dealers about ordering their 2012 SRXs. I think now is as good a time as any to visit a Caddy dealer and get those orders in!

  2. I have a low mileage 2010 SRX that I am going to trade in on a 2012. I have visited two different Cadi dealers. Neither one of them had the order information or prices yet. They both stated that around the middle of July they should receive the info needed to place and order. I live in the mountains in the west, and the 3.0 motor just doesn’t cut it outhere. Real lack of torque. I had traded in my 2006 CTS for the SRX, and no comparison as power between the two motors. Really looking forward for 2012.

  3. I, too, am looking at the 2011 SRX and trying to decide whether to get the 2012 because of the increased engine performance. Any idea how much more the 2012 will increase in price?

    1. I ordered a 2012 SRX in June and it reach 3000 status on July 5, 2011. It will probably be the first 2012 SRX my dealer receives.
