Chevy Cruze Coupe On The Way?

Oh, boy. According to a report from The Detroit Bureau, the hot-selling Chevrolet Cruze may finally see a coupe version in the not-too-distant future.

Though there is no official word, the Bureau is pretty confident this is happening, and that the car will be built in the Orion Township, MI assembly plant along with the upcoming Buick Verano and smaller Chevy Sonic. Apparently the assembly plant in Lordstown is swamped as it is trying to meet demand for the sedan model alone and can’t handle anything extra. But we should point out though that this is the same publication that is reporting on the Corvette getting a 3.0L turbocharged V8, which seems a tad left field to us, though this rumor is much more believable.

Now if only word would come around that a high-output version is underway. While their at it, they should launch the Cruze Hatchback in America as well.

  1. A Cruze Coupe is not as far fetched as the turbo 3.0 V-6 in the Corvette, so there could be some bones to this story. I agree about the Cruze hatchback. I’ve seen several new 2012 Foci lately, and the majority of them have been hatchbacks.

  2. A two door Hatch would be welcomed with a turbo 4! I have seen a few posts around this is what they would like! And AWD added would make it the way i would like! 🙂 As long as it isn’t priced like a Mitsubishi EVO or Subaru WRX STi!

    1. Yeah, but AWD probably won’t happen for this generation. The Delta will need some heavy revisions to accommodate it, unfortunately.

However, a turbo 1.6 would be nice — especially that it’s already available in Europe in the Astra!

  3. Hyundai, Ford, and technically Dodge offer hatchbacks, so the Cruze needs to bring the European version over here pronto. The Cruze really does need the coupe design too, GM doesn’t have anything for first driver teens. Give us more power, the car is great looking, but needs more power!

  4. 2013 will be the year of the 2 door and possible diesel it is also not a rumor of the 3 litre enigne for the vette, in Europe some extra taxes kick in above the 3 litre size and chevy is going global more and more.

  5. I was very enthused when I had heard thru the rumor mill that the Chevrolet Cruze may be available in the not-so-distant future as a 2dr coupe and hopefully better than that a hatchback as well. I started my driving career in a 1973 Chevrolet Vega GT (hatchback) followed by 3 other realistic reliable hatchbacks (1976 GT/1975-1976 Cosworth Twin-Cams). By Chevrolet offering to the U.S. public a hatchback coupe as well as a 2dr Kamback wagon with swelled bodywork I honestly believe that Chevrolet could create a cult status entry(s) and if AWD was possible (affordable) in this platform, too then I’m convinced that GM could captured alot more market.

  6. If the coupe rumor is valid it would be interesting if the coupe design will be similar to the 1982 thru 1987 Cavalier “upright” roof design with a longer rear decklid or if GM decides to adopt the later Cobalt design which is more laid back with a shorter decklid-either way I hope they offer quarter windows that swing out for ventilation. In regards to the hatchback rumor most likely GM will offer the 5 door design that is currently offered in other markets which is very nice and will definitely sell here, too.
