Hot off the ground from the Camaro Homecoming event in Oshawa, Canada, where GM Authority’s own Hylton Jorssen is busy doing his thang, comes the semi-official announcement from Camaro Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser that the mightiest Camaro of them all — the ZL1 — will get an option for an automatic transmission as well as the Performance Traction management feature that’s received critical acclaim on the Corvette ZR1.
As of this writing, however, there has been no word about a Camaro Z28 — as some expected going into the Homecoming event.
The GM Authority Take
Not that I would ever dream of getting a ZL1 with the slushbox — but for some — the auto is that necessary compromise reached with their significant other that allows for the ZL1 to rest in their driveway. In other words, not everyone knows how to, wants to, or can convince their significant other to drive a stick.
And while we’re at it, here’s to a convertible variant of the ZL1. Unfortunately, I believe that demand for a ZL1 in automatic form is way higher than demand for a convertible, but then there’s always the Mustang GT500 ‘Vert that Chevy should compete with…

Same basic powertrain as the CTS-V, the Automatic is a no brainer.
I can wait for a bit smaller, much lighter Camaro; as the tabula rasa for a REAL Z 28.
How about 3000 lbs max for a fully loaded V8 with air cond and power seats.
