Starting soon, GM’s Powertrain facility in Bedford, Indiana will be responsible for producing components for an upcoming eight-speed transmission destined for future small engines. According to General Motors, the plant will receive $49 million for retooling, and will add or create 91 jobs.
The presser hints that the four cylinder engines destined to marry with the eight-speed transmission will be as small as 1.0 to 1.5 liters.
Bedford currently has 405 hourly and salaried employees.
