40-Year GM Veteran Sues Company For Age Discrimination

In a report coming from The Detroit Free Press, 58-year-old Daniel Plouffe has gone to sue General Motors on the grounds of alleged age discrimination. Plouffe, who has been with the company for 40 years, claims that after the company exited bankruptcy two years ago it took the initiative to encourage older executives to retire in order to replace them with talent under the age of 50.

Plouffe didn’t retire, and was since demoted to a 9th level position, where he saw a 20%-25% cut in his salary, despite taking on the workload of three other executives who left the company. According to the Freep, Plouffe is the director of GM’s dealer business-to-business systems unit, which operates the computer system dealers order cars and parts with, as well as communicating with the company.

Though Plouffe has a case, it will be an uphill battle, as he must prove that the decision was based on his age, rather than the company simply cost-cutting. General Motors denies any wrongdoing.

  1. This is in regards to Daniel C Plouffe lawsuit with General Motors regarding Age Discrimination. As a former employee of Courtesy Chevrolet West Colonial there is very similar actions by General Motors and dealerships in Central Florida regarding the termination and forced resignations of older employees, starting in April 2009. Including all the employees (11) terminated, forced to resign or quit at the above dealership (except for 2 employees that were caught stealing) that were over the age of 40??? This company also BLACKLISTED me and had me FIRED at another dealership.
