16-Year-Old Becomes Youngest OEM-Backed Rally Racer

Talk about making motorsports history… sixteen year old Cameron Davies of the United Kingdom has become the youngest automaker-supported rally driver at the age of 16 in the Formula 1000 Junior rally championship, where he happens to be the current champion.

This season, Davies will be campaigning a Chevrolet-sponsored Spark rally car in the championship according to an announcement that was made at the British Touring Car Championship round at Oulton Park, Cheshire, UK.

“I’m absolutely bowled over by the fact I’ve got manufacturer support. It hasn’t really sunk in yet. I just can’t wait to drive it properly,” said Davies.

Davies and the Spark will be making their first appearance in Caerwent on June 24th. We wish Davies the best of luck, and we look forward to reporting on his results in our Racing Roundup series.

  1. If.
If he becomes a champion, and if GM can afford to keep him after that, this could be quite a coup.
