The NHTSA has issued a recall for 865,000 Chevrolet TrailBlazers, GMC Envoys, Buick Rainiers and Saab 9-7s built from 2005-2007 due to faulty gas gauges.
668 Complaints have been filed with NHTSA stating that the gauges were reported inaccurate or false readings about how much gas is left in the tank. Out of the 668 complaints, 58 claimed their vehicle stalled and one claimed the faulty readers even caused an accident. GM says they’re cooperating with NHTSA.

My 2002 impala has this problem, the gauge always reads empty or full, never being in between except when it randomly empty or fills back up. According to other internet forums many other impalas of this generation had this same problem. Same thing with the pontiac that had many similar parts.
I can only hope for a recall because I am surely not paying the few hundred dollars asked to repair the problem.
Very disappointing that GM would leave me in this situation. I own a 2007 Buick Rainier. I keep it in pristine condition. It is sad that they put consumers at risk and do not face up to their obligations to fully rectify the gas gauge issue. Definitely GM will be the losers on this as my next car will not be a GM model. I have owned many cars from various manufactures ….British, Jaapanese, German and never had to cover a repair this like this. It is extremely dangerous to be drving a vehicle when you cannot tell how much gas is in the tank. Especially when this is a family vehicle that teenagers are also driving. GM…shame on you!
“It is extremely dangerous to be drving a vehicle when you cannot tell how much gas is in the tank.”
As opposed to having a car with a working gas gauge but no seatbelts and a giant spike sticking out of the steering wheel.
A broken gas gauge is an inconvenience.
So if the Rainier’s were recalled should a dealership have been selling one.. I purchased a 2005 Buick Rainier and had immediate issues with it.. Took it back, invested 2 more thousand to have water pump and oil leak fixed.. Oil leak problem obviously didn’t get taken care of. Physical check of dip stick showed empty on 2 occasions even though gauge on dash always showed perfect pressure.. Truck ran all of 6 months before the engine blew.. I’m hoping to have some way of either having the truck fixed or my money returned.. hoping there is some one who can give me hope that I’m not 15,000 dollars screwed..
