GM is on track to regain the title it lost three years ago as the world’s largest automaker. Toyota, the current title holder, has been dealing with problems stemming from millions of recalls last year and the recent earthquake and tsunami in its home country of Japan, limiting production of many Toyota models.
At the same time, GM itself has grown stronger during Toyota’s reign after exiting bankruptcy last year and focusing on building better vehicles. The General has also seen sales increases in both the U.S. and China — where it has a stronghold on the market.
Last year, GM’s total global sales totalled 8.39 million vehicles. Toyota’s total sales for the year were only ahead by about 30,000 units. Could this be the year?

One thing for sure, GM has the best headquarters.
That’s true! If only the surrounding Detroit area was better… I hope that’s underway!
Unless something radical happens GM will be #1 this year. However watch out for VW.
Yeah, VW has set some lofty goals. But they’re still far away from their target in the US — I think they’re about 100,000 units short a month right now!
