General Motors Will Resurrect Chevy El Camino If 100,000 People Comment On A Post

General Motors marketing chief Joel Ewanick is calling you out. See, he wants to know if enough people in the United States really want the Chevrolet El Camino pickup car (truck?) of awesomeness brought back into this world. All you and 100,000 others have to do is comment on a post from Jalopnik. No joke.

Though we appreciate every comment we get, the story you need to comment on is this one from Jalopnik. Oh, don’t forget to pester Ewanick on Twitter as well.

  3. This is somewhat of a no brainer, a niche without competition. And the answer to the question; What’s more full than making payments on and maintaining a Collorado and a Camaro?

    1. Indeed it would be silly. Which is why it’s on my Facebook page, the GM Authority Facebook page and others have joined in to get the word out to comment on Jalopnik’s post. You should too.

  6. I wanna see El Camino’s on US streets again!

    1. You and me both!

This brings the bigger question, however: if the El Camino makes it’s way here, I think it’s safe to say that it will be a low-volume vehicle. So it would make sense to bring the Commodore here to boost volume and increase the target market!

  7. Isn’t this a turnaround. the thought of sending our utes to the US how hot is that you wont be disapointed. When you get use to it then try our HSV 317kw beasts the fastest utes in the world…. you will loveum. o by the way PLEASE send the Camaro here.

  8. It’s high time GM brings back the El Camino, With new trucks getting bigger & bigger & small trucks getting, well boring. The El Camino can fit perfectly right in the middle V-6 or V-8. On a recent trip to New Zealand I got to drive a V-8 Holden Ute, I’m sold!! If GM won’t bring them over here I’m gonna import my own.

  11. DO IT GM!! ITS A FIGHTING OPPORTUNITY… GO VIRAL!!… FACEBOOK!… TWITTER!… SKYPE!… TODAY SHOW! There is no competition with this model in the Western Hemisphere. The El Camino was a treasure of the 70’s and can be the COMEBACK model of all time, to finalize General Motors resurgence. DO IT like NIKE.

    1. Bad news for you, the El Camino is dead as are the 1970’s.

I think you’ll find consumer interests have changed dramatically in the last 40 years, and a car like the El Camino simply doesn’t have a workable business case anymore.

You can wish and wish all you like, but it will not change global consumer interest, put more crude oil in the ground, or bring back the 1970’s no matter how hard you try.

FACT: Wishes don’t come true because you want them to. Wishes only come true on a balance sheet.

      1. due to today’s standards my friend. people in todays united states market needs a fuel efficient truck and that takes them back and forth and helps them carry their heavy stuff around todays trucks they r strong and reliable but there’s a big issue they use a lot of gas. if u think this truck will not make it into the market…. think again in thee past the truck el camino used to be very efficient and today we need one

  12. I am all for the return of the El Camino. My first car was a 1970 El Camino and I have owned a 1969 SS396 El Camino that is a nut and bolt restoration since 1980. It seemed the initial engineering drawings of what became the SSR was going to be the rebirth of the El Camino. Sorry,it was a failure. I have owned a 2002 Avalanche and now own a 2008 Avalanche which is 2nd to an El Camino in my heart. Just insert the next generation chevy Small block and an 8 speed automatic and the Avalanche will over change for a buck!

  14. I am a long-time Chevrolet owner/driver. The new el camino needs to be available in a V-6 (4.3) and possibly a small V-8. I want a practical vehicle that I can use to both cruise in and work. Looking forward to the new Chevrolet El Camino…

  17. Hello,
I am very interested in a Chevrolet El Camino for 2013. I am interested in the El Camino’s practicality and not for a vehicle that has a 464 engine in it. Produce one with a 6 cylinder or even a 4 for us Florida residence and you will have a winner.

  18. I own and drive a 1976 Chevy El Camino. I am the original owner and have spent the last 7 years refurbishing my Camino to near showroom appearance. If you indeed brought back the El Camino, my house whole would suddenly become a two El Camino house whole. Please bring back the El Camino, I would be thrilled to own a new El Camino, as well as my as my old “Baby”.

Please do not use the designs featured from “Holden”. It got to resemble the Camaro detail design and Chevy SSR pick-up from this past decade. It got to look like Southern American architecture.

  33. As a 65 year old lover of cars, especially the Chevrolet lineup, I have own several El Camino’s in my lifetime. It has to be one my most favorite cars I have ever owned and were an absolute pleasure and comfort to drive. I have been waiting for the new Colorado because I presently drive a Chevy S-10 Extreme (2001) and now I know there might be a chance GM will bring back the El Camino, I would be the first in line in the state of Washington to purchase one. I has always wanted a classic!!!

  35. I am like a lot of your commentors, I’m ready to purchase a 2013/14 El Camino when they arrive in the USA. Always being a huge GM/Chevrolet fan, my wife and I have owned numerous El Camino. Our first new car as newlyweds was a 1970 SS 454 El Camino in Dark Blue with the white Cowl Induction stripe. This car was loaded to the hittle with almost every option available at that time. Funny, beautiful car. I wish I had it back numerous times. Wish I could ship the Holden Ute over from Australia right now after viewing their website. Great looking vechile.

  42. El camino is the coolest thing on 4 wheeles we need a modern day version that draws aggressive and stylish lines I have a 79 and get head turning looks great complements and offers to buy all the time so I would say there is a great demand for an excieting car that will bring back that great feeling of the classic american automobile with a unique feel of being an individual it takes a special person to drive an el camino one who wants the best of the sport and utility worlds.

  46. While I do like all Camino’s, Chevy needs to drop the whole superficialmodern look that the 2011 model had. They need to do like Dodge with the Challenger and go real old school with the looks but unlike Dodge they should put real wheels on it, like something you can drive down a dirt road on.
