News has come over the weekend passing of former General Motors CEO Robert C. Stempel in Florida at the age of 77.
Highlights of Stempel’s tenure include the development of the EV1 electric car. Lowlights include chains of quarterly losses and an eventual boardroom coup d’état that lead to his resignation in 1992. Below is GM’s official statement regarding Stempel’s death.

I liked and had great respect for Robert, I was selling Pontiacs when he became CEO. He was a great engineer and a good leader and Pontiac was doing great. GM needs more people like him, engineers first, to bring back the excitement!
