Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly To Let The Sunshine In

General Motors with help from DTE Energy will be installing 516-kilowatts worth of solar panels at the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant — the current birthplace of the Chevy Volt and soon-to-be 2013 Malibu — that will help power the plant and keep newborn Volts suckling at the charger until they roll off on a truck to be sold.

GM was mum on the total cost of the installation but the presser did state that the 264,000-square-foot solar array will save the plant $15,000 per year in energy costs over the 20-year easement agreement, then chances are something is going to need to be fixed or replaced.
