Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid Is More Affordable Than You Think

HybridCars.com recently had a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid for testing and pointed out something interesting. The Silverado Hybrid has a base price of $38,725, making it the second most expensive Silverado 1500 in the lineup next to the LTZ model. No doubt it’s pricier than most are willing to fork over for a half-ton truck, but HybridCars.com does point out, the truck is loaded with a ton of features. More importantly, the hybrid bits in the truck contribute $3,500 to the MSRP of the truck, which is about as much as a normal Silverado owner would pay every year in fuel with today’s unrelenting prices.

When HybridCars.com compared the gas mileage of Silverado Hybrid (20 City and 23 HWY MPG) and Silverado LT (13 MPG City and 18 MPG Hwy), they figured out you would be saving an extra $900 in your pocket per year (assuming 15,000 miles/year with gas at $4.00 per gallon), meaning the extra up front cost of $3,500 would pay for itself in under four years. Neat.
