3,000 Mile Test In A Chevrolet Cruze ECO Averages 40.35 MPG

Going three thousand miles on a road trip might be difficult for most, but going 3,000 miles and only using 75 gallons of gasoline seems very difficult. That’s what Richard Truesdell, the editorial director of Automotive Traveler Magazine and AutomotiveTraveler.com just did last week.

Truesdell drove a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze ECO from Riverside, California to Little Falls, New Jersey, a trip would take him and his 70-pound Golden Retriever five days to complete — no speed records here. When it was over, and all the calculations were finished, Truesdell used 72.53 gallons of gas, averaging 40.35 miles per gallon. Mission accomplished.

“I felt like I was driving a much more expensive car,” said Truesdell after the trip. Truesdell would go on and say he felt very comfortable during the trip.

  1. How many miles were on the car when the trip was started? Was it an auto or a manual? If the car was not “broke in” it could have seen better with a few thousand miles on it. Either way, fantastic gas mileage.
