GM Europe Begins Work On New Engine Plant In Hungary

GM Europe laid the first foundation stone for a new engine plant in Szentgotthárd, Hungary. The plant, which will go online in late 2012, will build small- to medium-sized gasoline engines and medium diesel engines that will meet Euro 6 emissions for Opel and Vauxhall vehicles. The new plant will also become a true “flex plant”, meaning that it will adjust quickly when customer demand rises for certain engines.

“The new Szentgotthárd engine plant with its vast range of advanced low-CO2 combustion engines and an unprecedented flexibility of manufacturing will be a cornerstone of Opel/Vauxhall’s product offensive”, said GM Europe President Nick Reilly.
