Since next year’s various revisions to the Chevy Cruze will bring an optional seven-inch color touchscreen display (instead of the current pixelated button-operated unit), we’re beginning to wonder whether the vehicle will contain a backup camera as well — as it seems to almost always come with the seven-inch color touchscreen.
While we haven’t received any reports from our sources regarding the availability of the rearview cam, it doesn’t exactly take a rocket scientist to deduce that the various updates to the 2012 Cruze may also be accompanied by the addition of the very useful backup lens. So we’re reaching out to our readers to ask — how much would you be willing to pay for the feature? Talk to us in the comments below!

GM can slap me somewhere in between $1800-2000 for a backup camera that should be an option to begin with and thee other safety sensors or extra airbag who cares.I really do find it rather interesting that the cruze will have a back up while the regal nor regal gs has it as an option on your top trim vehicle the “GS.”Okay so im taking an educated gm authority guess Mr. Luft and say that since there might be a cam available for the 2012 cruze its safe to say that the verano will have this feature along the line(minus the regal). If buick is suppose to be a luxury brand now there should be basic amenities that should be standard .I am very passionate about this move because I am a 25 year old guy who lives in south florida and i will be in the market for a new car soon and my options are the Cts 3.6 Di model and the soon to be regal gs.I am leaning towards the cts but then back to the gs as the price rises with every option which is about 50 grand.Things head south once i found about the upcoming ATS ,XTS and of course the all new CTS i am really at a disadvantage because i need to purchase a vehicle this year and cannot hold off for the newer models which i want and extremely excited about especially the ATS.I wonder can u help me from colorado springs????
Hey Mike — I just moved to CO Springs from South Florida! Small world!
If we look at a true luxury brand like Lexus (you know, one that has already established itself in the space and is charging true luxury prices — unlike Buick), we’ll see that they offer backup cams as options. So while I agree that the backup cams should be optional features across the entire Buick range, I don’t think they should be standard equipment. That said, making them standard would give Buick a nice competitive advantage — who else can you say has a rearview camera… standard?
PS: I’d go for the CTS. The Buicks are great, but it sounds like you’re really looking for performance. And a FWD sedan like a Regal (even in GS trim) will be fun, but it won’t be as fun as a properly-balanced CTS.
If you really could, wait at least until the 2013 model year. But it sounds like you’ll need a car this year.

I haven’t driven a Regal, but I do drive CTS and I tell you what, I love this car, this is my 3rd CTS (04, 07, 08) and I love how they perform.
I see , my first choice has always been the cts I have a couple of factors that are weighing in ,I have to purchase one before years end and also I plan on buying cash that is why I am even considering the regal gs i need some serious advice
After driving my FX35, I am addicted to backup cameras. I would be willing to fork out the cash to have one. I can tell you right now, if the 2012 Cruze has one, I would be at the dealership in a heartbeat. They are very useful and aid in backing up more than you can imagine. Just don’t rely on it, you still need to take a look around. 😉
I bought a fully loaded LTZ 2011 model and the bigest negative was that a rear camera was not available. I would like to see it as a $500 option but would have probably paid $1000 if available. I also hope you go to the touch screen display as the present button system is not very user friendly. The interior lights are also too dim.
Overall, great car.
