Going along with the company’s $3 billion investment for the Brazilian market between 2008 and 2012, General Motors has decided that it will add a third shift to its 80-plus-year-old assembly plant in São Caetano Do Sul, Brazil to provide the manpower needed to produce four future Chevrolet products for the South American market, which will add 1,500 new jobs for the region. Currently the plant employs over 10,500 people and builds the Chevrolet Vectra, a South American twin of Europe’s Opel Astra.
Brazil, a growing major economy is currently GM’s third-largest market globally and the second-largest market for the Chevrolet brand.
