In an effort to make the Chevrolet Volt appeal to more mainstream buyers, General Motors has been hard at work at finding ways to lower the cost of the vehicle, which is just out of reach for several.Â
In a recent interview with the Detroit News, GM CEO Dan Akerson claims that he charged the Volt team with finding a way to knock $10,000 of the Volt’s base price without making the car feel akin to a golf cart be it through things such as a bump in production, the re-engineering of interior materials or exploring new technology.
“We’re there,” one DetNews source muttered, but gave no clues as to how.
Probably the biggest thing that is working in The General’s favor is the combination of a production increase and the evolution of EV tech. So in all honesty, this shouldn’t be shocking news that we could see $10,000 of the Volt’s MSRP in the future.
