Hitachi Plants Resume Activity After Earthquake, Shreveport Assembly Back Online

Three assembly plants run by Hitachi Automotive Systems have gone to resume their activities following the severe devastation and tragedy that has fallen upon Japan due to a massive earthquake and tsunami earlier this month.

This spells good news for General Motors and the industry as a whole, as the Japan-based plants were responsible for producing the lithium-ion batteries for the upcoming eAssist systems that will be featured in the 2012 Buick LaCrosse and Regal sedans, and engine control modules for certain GM vehicles. As a result, GM has put its Shreveport, LA plant back online as well.
