Ed Welburn, The General’s vice president of global design, can’t seem to stop talking about future products his design teams are working on. In the latest review from the Australian enthusiast website Go Auto, Welburn talks very highly of GM’s Australian design team, who are currently hard at work finishing up on the design of the next generation Holden Commodore, a car as synonymous with the land Down Under as kangaroos. And boomerangs.
Welburn couldn’t bring himself to go into details, but he claims the new Commodore (or VF Series) “is the absolute right Commodore for that market”. He also refused to tease the Aussies with any sort of details on a potential Yankee variant.
It turns out however that the Australian design team are not exclusive (though most likely partial) to designing only future Holdens. The team is also busy putting the finishing touches on the Opel Astra GTC, an unnamed crossover based on the Corsa and an unnamed convertible. But that’s not all…
Welburn also pointed out that the very American C7 Corvette could feature some Australian influence… whenever GM decides to shed light on the project.
