General Motors has been forced to lay off 59 of the 623 workers employed at the Tonawanda engine plant in Buffalo, NY, a move that stems from the temporary shut down of the Shreveport, LA assembly plant, which the Tonawanda plant provides engines for in order to build the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon.
The Shreveport, LA plant was originally suspended due to a parts shortage coming in from Japan.
