GM Europe VP Of Design Holds “No Concerns” With Chevy Volt And Opel Ampera Being Sold In Same Market

In a web chat put on by Opel yesterday with Mark Adams, GM Europe’s vice president of design, Adams provided general insight to the future direction of the Opel/Vauxhall brands.
The following is a summery regarding future Opel products that came up during the chat:
The Opel Flextreme GTE Concept
As to whether or not we will ever see the Voltec powered sedan ever see production, Adams states that the concept was a design study for something “potentially over the horizon”, and that several cues from the Flextreme will be seen in several upcoming production vehicles.
The Opel Zafira Tourer Concept
From what Adams said in the chat, it sounds like the Zafira Tourer Concept is a dead-ringer for what we can expect for the next-gen Zafira, flexible “lounge” seating and all.
The Opel Ampera Versus The Chevrolet Volt
Adams (and perhaps the rest of the GM Europe brass) believe that the Ampera carries some kind of “individual character” that is absent in the Chevrolet Volt, which will be sold in the European market alongside the Ampera. While that may be true from a design perspective, there’s little else the Ampera brings to the table that the Volt doesn’t, and it’s hard to see how the decision to bring the Volt to the European market won’t directly affect the overall success of its cousin.
