Even though General Motors centers most of its Asian operations in South Korea and China, the recent natural disaster affecting Japan will have an effect on the entire automotive industry as a whole, including GM.
See, a few components for GM cars such as the Chevrolet Volt are supplied from a plant in Japan, and GM North America president Mark Reuss and co. are still waiting on a full assessment on the damage and are currently working on contingency plans if worse comes to worst.
Though Reuss could be taken as insensitive, it should be noted that GM has reached out and donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross for the sole purpose of relief efforts for the Land of the Rising Sun.
