General Motors To Put 2,000 Laid Off Workers Back To Work By Fall

The United Auto Workers have announced that General Motors will recall all 2,000 of the remaining laid off UAW plant workers back to work by September. Once that happens, new hires into the GM assembly plants will be hired under the second tier of the new two-tier wage system that will begin being put into place at the Orion Twp., MI plant in the fall where the all-new Buick Verano and Chevrolet Sonic will be built. Under the second tier, workers will make around half as much as the elder first tier workers.

“We will have full employment in September for the first time in a long time,” UAW vice president Joe Ashton told the Detroit News.
